trek top fuel

The Top Fuel is their serious racing bike for XC. This is what you compete with. Also some bikers who aren't racers will still prefer the aggresive and distinct handling characteristics of a race bike just for their daily ride.

The Top Fuel is about getting through difficult terrain in the shortest period possible. For 2009 we are looking at a lighter bike with better rear suspension. The top of the range 9.9 SSL model is just 9.5kg (21lb) without pedals. A lot of this bike came from the Madone Road bike technology including the ‘no-cut’ seatmast concept that has been adapted for off-road use and the integrated bottom bracket shell design with drop-in bearings. Each version of the Top Fuel has been refined to meet the rigorous demands of top level racing. This year Trek have completely re-evaluated every aspect of the frame design and has done pretty much a complete overhall.

This is a bike built for speed.

The full Uk range is as follows:

Madone

This is their UNPARALLELED DRIVETRAIN EFFICIENCY coming from their road technology. No cut-off-road-seatmast making it stiff, light and adjustable. Net molded precision fit socket integrated headset- Maximum precision, drop in bearings. BB90 system allowing the use of Trek only special low profile 2x9 crankset from FSA.

OCLV

The "OCLV" in Trek OCLV Carbon stands for "Optimum Compaction, Low Void." It's their proprietary method of producing carbon frames and components. Trek’s high-performance carbon fiber, OCLV Black employs intermediate modulus carbon fiber and their time-tested lay-up schedules. This OCLV Carbon Cross Bow design heralds a bike seeing it's biggest redesign since it's introduction in 2000. From an increase in 90mm to 100mm of rear suspension travel to the 100g+ fuselage weight loss. The Cross Bow frame is purpose built to tkae the entire benefit of a seatmast system designed to be compliant where appropiate and stiff where necessary.

ABP

So starting with ABP. Get your head around this one if none else! Why? Well two reasons 1) It is featured in all Trek's full suspension bikes so top riding technology is a core feature across the range not just the exclusivity of a few and 2) It is often spoken of as the most impressive and advanced piece of mtb technology in the last few years. First to explain it simply and how I understand it. Basically when you brake your suspension behaves and you keep in control of your bike making corners or stutter bumps that much easier and more keeps you in control when you do.You can brake later and stay in control. In tech talk. ABP's (Active Braking Pivot) unique placement in line with the reae wheel axle creats the least caliper movement of any system, yielding the most active suspension under braking.

Full Floater

Full floater in simple terms means you use the entire shock stoke and so absorbs the smallest bumps, makes for easier climbing and makes the the bike feel like it has more travel. In tech talk it means you have a rear shock with a moderate progressive (or rising) rate up to the mid-stroke and a slight falling rate in the last 1/3 of travel.

As a precariously related aside Top-Fuel Racing is a class of drag racing in which the cars are run on a maximum of 90% nitromethane and about 10% methanol (also known as racing alcohol), instead of gasoline. The cars are purpose-built race cars, with a layout superficially resembling open-wheel circuit racing vehicles; however, they are much longer, much narrower, and have very thin front tires, to optimize their performance exclusively in a straight line. Basically like our sweet bike here they are are built for speed
