Green Oil UK launch the EcoSponge, a fairly traded, biodegradable sponge for bike cleaning from the Philippines. As part of an increasingly growing range green bike products, Green Oil UK is launching possibly the world’s first ever fairly traded bike product.

Whilst many factories have fair employment rules and respect their workers, ‘fairly traded’ specifically refers to the long term employment and engagement of economically disadvantaged producers, in accordance with the rules of the WFTO* (World Fair Trade Organization).

The EcoSponge is grown from the Luffa plant, which means it is biodegradable after its cleaning life. This diverts material away from landfill – worn out sponges can not be recycled easily, if at all.

EcoSponges are also ultra light and small. They are transported flat, then grow when soaked in water for 1 minute. This means less CO2 in transit.

EcoSponges are also remarkably durable, lasting around a year. As a premium product, the retail price will be £3.49. With the summer approaching fast, the Eco Sponge will be a great counter top seller.

As usual, the Green Oil brand uses humor on its packaging. Rather than being hidden away or obstructing the label look, the branded ‘Baah Code’ (Bar Code) is inside a proud fluffy sheep.
