Giro Xen Helmet

The Giro Xen helmet is a comfortable, strong and pretty sweet looking mountain bike helmet.
I went for the Giro Xen helmet as I was finding my trail riding to be taking in more and more jumps and drops as the spread of little dirt parks and tougher trails started to pop up. I have a full face for my downhilling but didn't want to be so laid down wearing that in a trail environment. Hence I wanted something really strong and tough and yet comfortable and light enough to wear all day and in all conditions. This helmet really fits the bill.
I also started to find the typical xc helmets to look a bit naff and stuck in a seventies design style time warp. So also unlike so many xc helmets the Xen does kinda look pretty sweet and clearly gets some design input from the skate style of the day.
It's marketed as an all mountain helmet for the modern mountain biker and I would say that is pretty accurate. The roc Loc 4 adjuster at the back is really easy to adapt and feels very secure. The helmet also keeps you cool in the summer as it is well ventilated with pretty big vents.
It really suits the aggressive mountain biker and comes with a lot of strength and protection with it's upper, lower and rear In-moulded hardbody. I've taken a tumble on it and all was good. I haven't as yet had a really bad fall on it so in some ways you could view my review as not complete! Apologies.. But if I do mind have a bad impact I promise to come back and add. Hopefully I wont have to
but if I do, I sense I'll have more chance with it than without.
I would also say that I find as a guy with no hair that helmets can really feel uncomfortable and niggle your scalp. With this helmet I have not had that problem. So it passes that all important baldy man test
So if you are a pretty diverse and aggressive modern day biker I think it is worth spending that little extra on a decent helment like the Giro Xen. Comes in a few colours and designs I believe.

tested to destruction!!!
wanted something a bit more substantial as riding more trail centres etc a bit harder and faster
was worried it would be too hot, does get hot but is bearable
recently slammed my head into the floor on the Twyrch trail downhill (not intentionally) - head in one piece - helmet squished, seems like the thing works as it should

well vented
good fit - fit and forget
pads in one piece - not too fiddly
my visor rattled a bit
gets a bit hot even in winter
price increase puts RRP at £124 - bit steep
I have one off these
In all this is an excellent helmet and well worth the money, I have the green and white one, and when i've been riding the marin route there has been riders who have wanted to swap for there's lol.
So go for it its a very cool helmet, Ask TOMTONKS he wants the same as mine ....

All mountain helmet for the more aggressive mountain biker
Worth spending a little more on a decent helmet. It's your head.
