The Camelbak Octane 18X 2 Litre Hydration System (to give it its full name) is pretty great as a bag and hydration system for mountain biking. My previous Camelbak carried 3 litres and lasted maybe 4 or 5 years. The bag is still good but zips were getting a little stiff. So impressed I have been with their long term no hassle use (many times in the washing machine) I was keen to be brand loyal.
So this new one is lovely. It has a distinctive and noticeable yellow colour but it looks very cool and you get lots of nice things being said. It's soft shell makes it easy to pack away and there is a big section to put loads of stuff and enough pockets but not too many to get lost in.
It carries 2 litres of water in the bladder and I went for less than my previous 3 litre Camelbak bag, and that is fine for me for rides up to around 3 hours plus. I rarely do the long epics I used to so this suits me better as I'd always come back with a litre left over and it's pointless carrying extra weight. One of the things I like best is the side pockets on the waist straps on either side. It allows you to keep your mobile easily accessible whilst riding without taking the bag off and also you can keep energy bars on the other side. Very neat and handy.
