Rear Wheel Hop Rear Wheel Hop Hot

The Rear Wheel Hop is probably the most synonymous trick with the perception most people have of trials.  Once mastered you will never stop hopping on your back wheel. Here we cover three methods of learning and achieving this. Trials is an art, not a mystery.

(contribution from Segio Rivas sergitobt from Santiago, Chile)

Method 1 (recommend you start here)

  • Involves positioning  your front wheel up on a ledge about 2 feet high and hopping.

  • Move your hips and body backwards. Drop your heels and hang back off the handlebars.

Method 2

  • Rock up onto your front wheel, then as the rear wheel tyre comes down transfer your momentum backwards pulling back in your handlebars right up to the rear wheel hop position.

Method 3

  • This involves the pedal kick and gets detailed coverage in another feature.
Tips:
The closer your front wheel is to the ground the lower your butt must be behind the saddle. Conversely the higher your front wheel is from the ground the arms must be bent and you body more upright.

Either way. Be protected, wear a helmet and body armour.  Have lots of fun.
