Epic Epping
Epping Forest Mountain biking
9am, sunshine and an empty car park. Today I dragged Tom off to Epping for a blast around to show him some the single track and fun places over the last few months that I have been unearthing.
Despite the sunshine, there was a slight nip to the early morning air, so our pace was good from the outset. I initially took Tom over to show him Loughton Camp. We only looked briefly as we were both eager to find some sweet single track.
On riding a bridle path, we spied an opening into the forest and headed for it. Our continuing 4½ hour journey (smackral break half way though ) took us through fantastic fast flowing single track covering a great deal of the area Epping Forest covers and we are sure there is much more to discover south of Connaught Water. As our wheels turned, we raced through narrow wooded paths, missing low trees and dodging nettles. The going was pretty good, only a little soft under rubber in a few places... and one REALLY DEEP puddle, that of course I found... how much fun!!!
After our break back at the cabin, we headed up top and found a wicked section with natural whoops, doops and jumps, with the addition of some biker built stuff too... really great jumps that we sessioned time and time again.
Onwards and more sweet single track. The day was going great, despite my little accident with a deeper than anticipated rut. And the sun was still shining!
It was almost a disappointment to know that we had run out of time to continue riding.
A much different day for us than we would normally do together... more reminiscent of the Trek days...but it was a great trainer day for us both. Absolutely loved it.
Where next.........??!
