Kielder Mountain Bike Centre is situated in Kielder Water & Forest Park and has 7 trails. There is a family green, a beginners blue, three red and one black. It also has a mtb trials area. So there is something for all abilities.
This is all in 62,000 hectare (155,000 acre) Borders wilderness located at Kielder Castle Visitor Centre.
The Green Borderline trail starting from Kielder Village follows the former Border Counties Railway and is perfect for all the family.
The Blue Osprey trail starts from Kielder Castle.
The Red Lonesome Pine trail offers descents as well as the UK’s longest, one metre wide, wooden boardwalk of its kind.
The Bloody Bush trail starts via the Lonesome Pine trail. It links Kielder Water & Forest Park to the Scottish Border and the 7 Stanes bike centre at Newcastleton. Speeding through trees and moorland, it takes its fearsome name from a remote spot called ‘Bloody Bush’ on the Border. Marked by a stone pillar, it commemorates the site of a pitched battle between English cattle raiders and their Scottish pursuers in medieval times.
The Deadwater red trail starts from Kielder Castle. It takes in the Deadwater Summit.
The Deadwater black trail starts via the Deadwater red trail. It is a technical trail for expert riders.
The Cross Border trail is a days ride in itself starts using Lakeside Way at Kielder Castle, you can ride the trail fully by forest road or via singletrack sections on Lonesome Pine, Bloody Bush and 7stanes Newcastleton. At Newcastleton Forest, the trail links into 7stanes Singletrack, then back into England you can finish off the ride on Lonesome Pine singletrack trail sections.
The Orange graded Trials Park is jam packed with technical features like a rock garden, big ‘orange’ rated’ jumps and a two metre high elevated timber trail, bikers using the new trials park will require body armour and specialist bikes.
Timber features in the new trail area were built by Neville Potts, sponsored by Jacksons Timber in Hexham. Ian Bell and David Robinson from the Bike Place, Kielder, also helped with design and construction.
There are two bike hire facilities in Kielder Water & Forest Park - Purple Mountain and The Bike Place Kielder.
