Last Weekend - Stock Hill Mendip

It was my caving club annual dinner (i.e. piss-up) last weekend and we had arranged for a beginners MTB ride on the Sunday morning to visit Stock hill woods on top of Mendip.

I had brought my Enduro and the ride was more level XC riding. Stock Hill, despite the name, is mainly level with only a small and shallow gradient difference in height throughout. Still there is some off main track action to be had dodging through trees, over roots and through deep muddy sections. I was starting to get the same impression I had in North Wales, namely that the Enduro whilst eating up fast flowing action and bumps, jumps and drops, was not at home on slow tight turning slippy rocks and roots sections, although this time it could have been the extremely bad hangover that was affecting me! I may have to try going out on my old rebuilt Rockhopper to see if the hardtail copes better.
