Mary Towneley Loop
We set off at 09:10 hours yesterday morning (19/05/09) to go maybe about 8 miles, packed the right supplies for such a ride over the Pennines or so I thought . Only we got a little ambitious, full of energy and not thinking ahead.
Lets go a little further (Kev's words of wisdom) and I agreed!
It was a cloudy day anyway when we left my parents house, but by the time we hit the Pennines it was raining; lightly, so not a problem. As we pushed further on the rain became heavier and more prolonged, the wind was starting to pick up.
But not being equipped with a proper map; only the map downloaded on the Garmin, we only had that route to follow. The further we went the more we realised we had no choice but to keep going. The wind and rain was unrelentless, I soon ran out of water and realised I hadn't packed the snack bar that I thought I had packed for the shorter ride. So now hungry, cold and wet the only way to get a drink was to look up to the skies and drink the rain!
I think towards the latter half of the ride with the bloody hills, damned grit, sheep s**t, cow dung, horse manure and not forgetting being soaked right through to my skin (literally). I was drained to say the least and having to dig deep to keep going; when all I wanted to do was curl up against a wall and not get up.
I had to push my bike more than ride because of the conditions, even the slightest ascent my legs didn't want to know.
As we cycled past Gorple Reservoir the heavens opened, now we are already wet through but it was like we were literally cycling in the Reservoir; it took my breath away it was so cold.
But when Kev said now he was starting to feel how I had been feeling for the last hour, I didn't hold up too much hope of him keeping me motivated to keep moving.
I was ankle deep in sludge and water most of the time. I phoned home to say we were okay and would hopefully be home by 17:30 hours, that was a tad hopeful.
We arrived home covered in sludge and slurry soaked to the skin at 22:00 hours.
My mom ran us a bath and I couldn't stop shaking I was soooooooooooo cold. Keven ate alot, he even ate the chocolate cake that was for ME!
This was an experience and a half. IF I ever do it again I will make sure we have warm clothing food and water supplies.
The things we put our bodies through!
Why do we do it?

... I have no recollection of eating MrsBeOne's chocolate cake Epic Ride, Mrs. Not only our longest ride so far but also the most we have ever been rained on. Great fun tho. We'll be better prepared next next time. Anyone else fancy it? |

... Don't have cash to buy a house? Don't worry, because it is achievable to receive the personal loans to solve such kind of problems. Thus get a collateral loan to buy everything you want. |
