Spring has arrived - Mendip Trail

What a fantastic weekend - sunny and clear and dry all week. Went out for a longer local ride Sunday - checked out the forestry on the way up Mendip - looks like they've finished - all the forwarders are out only the odd pile of logs for them to collect now.

They've not done much to clear the tracks but the bone dry conditions and the fact that most of the tree debris was gone meant we could ride the forest roads that had previously been impassable.

Our target for the day was a bridlepath that Jo had spotted whilst out walking on Saturday that isn't on our maps. This headed off east from a previous route we'd done that drops down to Cheddar. Tje track skirts along just under the edge of Mendip and drops gently until it crosses Draycott Steep, it then heads down more steeply finally coming out in Rodney Stoke. It was a nice track andĀ gave good views across the levels to Glastonbury. It joins an old tree lined drove road and was a great little find.

The only drawback was dropping us at Rodney Stoke as this meant a longer ride home. Still we managed to drop in unannouced on some friends who live in Draycott and were furnished with tea and cake for sustenance.

We took the easy route home on the Strawberry line and on road as it was getting late (without lights) and Jo's legs were tired from the previous days walk and the riding so far.
