Location
Wharncliffe Woods is a steep and rocky wood with many hidden quarries and lots of streams near Sheffield. It is famous as the training ground of Steve Peat. For years under the radar trail building went on but today digging and diplomacy are the name of the game led by the the local group the Wharncliffe Riders Collective.
XC Trails
A new route is planned. It will be 10 miles long. The work is ongoing as we go to print but I hear a couple of miles of the route are already open.
Down Hill Tracks
This is what has made the wood famous in the mtb scene. They are not currently official and suffer from erosion and user confict It is murmed that there are plans are afoot to bring these into an acknowledged status resolving both issue. There is strong confidence that the trails will go on to be some of the best acknowledged officially and respected in the UK.

I rode here a few years ago and it pissed down relentlessly. The day was awesome even though my gears broke and ended up with a singlespeed for the day. It has some of the funnest downhill and drops you can find.
