Dragon's Back Epic - 8th May 2008
The day that the sun finally came out Coedy-Y-Brenin.
It's been a long time since we all seen the sun and boy did it shine 24c , so it was time to ride an other epic ride , yes its been 7 years since i last came here and the last ride i did was the MBR route . But now i'm on a mission to do the famous Dragon's back epic ride , ride time i was told is 3 to 5 hrs . so i thought ok i'm up for it .

The day the sun came out no wind just a light breeze , going to be a good day , off i went , well i was in for a suprise right at the start is a rocky path , ha nearly went over my bars , so i thought calmed down get a grip , not even started , so away i went on my epic ride sun beating down on me , oakley shades yes you do have to look the part i recon lol , the ride slowly got better i felt really good legs felt good to , i'm on a roll with this ride today , well signed posted too caught some riders , a couple who have been here a few times , they seemed quite confident and i asked where they have been before , they said they had done the Marin route I smiled oh i did that a few weeks ago 2hrs 30 mins lol , ummm there faces well they were suprised , so i said you two taking the lead as they new the route , reply think you better go first as your a bit fast for us lol , so off i went yep goooood single tracks here flying down them , oh yes i'm in super sonic mode 
) . Finally came to a bridge awsome views ,
So over the bridge i go no one behind me apart from one rider who was riding with his action cam on his helmet , so i carried on up the fire road and looked behind me gone out of site , he's not going to get much action with that cam i thought , ok more single track , i would compare this as mild to Afan forest Trails ,as these are more rolling and can keep up a good speed , But i also noticed that this place has better surface which to me is very good , the veiws here are fantastic .

I will give it some thing , Coedy y Brenin know how to show off there views . ok so now i'm riding hard after taking some photo's even the climbs are good , i felt so strong today i was climbing up this fire road middle ring 28 tooth and i was'nt hanging about this place is so enjoyable , that i have to come again look at this climb its like your in a different country ..
I'm so impressed there was another section and i'm gutted as i forgot to take a picture it was like this but you could see it going around the contours of the mountain sides and into the valley , i reached some speed riding down it , but you had to be aware that gravel is very slippery and at one point i nearly lost me line , it's not a place to have an accident here , your on your own. Well here we go into the forest more single track , very fast and flowing ,started to get a bit hungry , so i had power gel , plus a power bar and an apple , some drink from my pack , oh yes i treated my self to a new North Face Megamouth
This is so comfortable you dont even know its on your back my other one was killing my back , as there is no support like this one , recomend it if you want a good sack and it's got loads off room .
Ok i'm looking at my time doing ok , my GPS Garmin 205 letting me know i've done 22km, so according to the route which is just over 31km means i'm bloody doing good for a fast ride , ummm good at them lol so i'm going for high speed and yes i'm twisting into more tight bends tweeking the back break on the come back bends really going for it , speed is up skills are up to there limits i'm gooood , just near the end of this track big drops tight turns really tight big tree roots , bollocks belled my bottom frame on a root , stuff it it's going good not let that bother me , come's to the end off the track , crap very stoney track up hill to my left , not even had time to change down , quickley into my granny ring trust me this is so steep , went into my 30 tooth just so i would'nt spin it out in power , steady i go long climb this , small cross roads looking for my sign ..
There it is ok away i go , looking good feeling really good legs full off power now i'm climbing , more single track cool i can see the centre oh yes i'm flying cooool , heading into more of a technical bit now , god big drops here concentration at it's most here , wow this is killing my hands and forearms wow , this bits harder than the rest off the route , now i can see the finish , so i sprint to the centre oh crap bike goes side ways , ha its fine gravel just uncliped at the last minute , that was close lol . Well gets to the cafe for a refreshing cool drink , there was a guy who i got talking to earlier and asked how i did , well i check my GPS ha 2hrs 33 mins cool , he could'nt belive it , he said i did well they have a fast rider and he does it in 2 .25hrs .. so you know what i'm going to do next time , Beat it ;o) ..

Hi richard you ok , hope you get better , could off done it twice lol , oh i'm doing a race tonight , was going to do a night ride with Stockport Clarion but there all racing, its cyclo cross , so i've been roped in there's about 100 racing and starts at 8pm for 1 hour i must be mad , but i'm riding ok so i'm having a bash , the rest off them are riding there mountain bikes to lol should be fun  |

... my race was good and it was very fast got a good position 15 in the vets and about 27 over all out of 50 or so riders crashed on last lap lol went for the kill big time speeds up to 30mph down a single big rooted track took the bend and my bars caught a tree on my right , and i was thrown off my bike straight into a thorn bush lol so i'm still sore left knee took a battering , ...so i'm resting |
