Rother Valley mountain bike trails are situated in Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield. They have red, blue and green waymarked trails. There is also a black downhill run. The terrain is a clay base so can get muddy.

The volunteer community are active in organising dig days to maintain and develop the trails. All development is co-ordinated exclusively through the Rother Valley trail community.

Rother Valley Red

 • The red MTB trail is a short 5.4 km XC loop full of climbs, descents, technical features and sweet single-track. It is for experienced riders only.

Rother Valley Blue

 • The 4.2 km blue novice trail has more of a natural feel. It is an extension to the green (you branch off by crossing the river via the ‘A Frame’ bridge before passing Playdales play area).

Rother Valley Green

 • The 5km green trail is a family friendly all-weather surfaced flat rail around the lake. Good for all types of bikes including bike-ability adapted bikes.

Black Downhill

 • A 1km downhill track with jumps, drops, rock gardens and berms.

Avoid the Gloop

 • This is a 10.5 km trail specifically put together to avoid the muddy trails when the weather is dire. It follows hard surfaced tracks only.

Really surprised to find some great trails at rother valley. Black route is good for jumps, red routes both solid technical trails. Went not expecting much so was happy to find well built trails. Will be going back.

Good Points
Well built and maintained trails, good mix. Impressive that someone has taken time to highlight hidden rocks / roots with paint. Easily lost amongst leaf litter so a life saver in autumn.
Bad Points
Can't fault it

I have only rode the red routes and several paths round the lakes so I cannot speak for the black route however from what I've seen it looks excellent which gives me hope that one day the others will be as good.

Good Points

When it has been sunny for a while the actual trails are alright and worth the climbs.
Loads of potential so the people who build the trails keep it up and you will have some very good trails.

Bad Points

Turns into a mud bath with the tiniest bit of rain.
Very little actual trail.
Could be better marked out.
Only worth riding if you live nearby like myself.

Good Points
I love the enthusiasm of the rangers at Rother Valley. By the amount of work they do on the varied trails, they obviously care about their jobs and are bikers at heart.
It's easily accessible by road, or even better, just off the Trans Pennine Trail. There's plenty of parking, free if you don't mind a bit of faff and paid for if you prefer to be right inside the park.
They have organised training to help younger riders develop their skills (very reasonably priced) and are starting to run organised rides.
Bad Points
The wind off the lake slows me down!

There's loads here to choose from, family friendly blue and green routes (that are fun if you want a nice leisurely ride) red and black routes for more extreme riding and plenty of unofficial trails that criss cross the site. Most of the trails get really muddy and difficult to ride after rain.
There's good but expensive car parking. However there's free road-side parking in an industrial estate to the west of rother valley.
This place gets incredibly busy when the weather is nice so if you like your peace it'd be best to stear ckear

These are decent volunteer built trails that are improving all the time. Gets muddy on the top sections in the winter but all rideable.
