Good Points
Our leatherheadzmtb group love riding over at Wakerley and fineshades woods, the trails are great and the facilities are just right. Love it ???
Bad Points
None really
We are lucky to have such fine riding places
Especially with the over development of our towns and cities. Great woods for riding are had to find.

I used to ride the red route here when it was first built and it was great, (but a bit short) but no maintenance and poor weather killed it. So now there's the armoured blue route.
Great all-weather route and fun, and good for beginners. Bit short, of course.
Add in alap around FIneshade and it's a fun ride, especially in the winter.
Off-piste stuff gets muddy.

good for a bit of fun all year round.

Good Points
Wakerley scar tree trail is a great little trail to get your legs going with some tight and twisty berms and a few fast sections. Plenty of stuff to explore off the laid trail. Fineshade is great for adding a few miles to your ride and the short skill sections are a bit of fun. Look for the gaps in the trees near the old railway banking for unofficial trails.
The bike shop is open at weekends and I've found them helpful on a couple of occasions and the cafe is good for hot drinks and light snacks.
If you have a caravan there is a site next to the top lodge cafe and car park.
Bad Points
the trails have a little too much lime stone which takes away some of the natural rooted terrain challenge and is a bit short(though there are plenty of unofficial trails to explore).
A few more signs near the openings of the sections warning walkers of the mtb trail might discourage walkers and their dogs being a danger to riders and themselves.

Great place to take you small kids as an exciting intro to MTB, they should be addicted by the time they leave.

Over the road at Fineshade the family trail is ok but the last section is an uphill crawl that 20" wheels will not appreciate unless you stop halfway at the playground to distract them

Good Points
Easy access and well built for winter training use. Caravan park in Fineshade if you want to stay over and bike shop there too.
Bad Points
Too short with such a big wood at your finger tips. Off piste needs a bit of signing maybe.

the scartree trail is about 3 miles long, so you can do a few laps round here pretty quickly, great to work on your fitness. 1 short climb a couple of short descents, lots of berms, a couple of rocks. some off piste bits, and a couple of opportunities to get some speed up. worth checking out if you are local or driving nearby. there is a cafe at the nearby fineshade woods on the opposite side if the a43 which is a 5 minute ride from the wakerley car park. theres a small green route and some more off piste stuff at fineshade as well.

Some good fun sections with a couple of good berms. Good for a few laps. The trail is quite flat and nothing particularly technical, but a fun lap overall. Worth the visit if you're in the area

Do ride there regularly as the are some good bits of single track if you find some locals to ride with. Again, over the road in fine shade there are some good sections of you can find them. Just don't bother going if you expect the blue route to be up to much.

Good Points
Somewhere to go in the winter when the ground is too muddy to do much else and you don't have time to go to Cannock or further. Great for beginners and those that don't like anything testing.
Bad Points
Used to be a lot better when you had to use some skill to negotiate hazards, roots, holes, puddles, mud etc nice and tight twisting single track. Now all the trails are wide enough to confuse with the high street pavement. Some of the Banked corners are too tight and have no natural flow. Trail feels boring and dead, whomever is responsible for the new trails should not work again.

Good Points
The official trail (Scartree) is short, but well armoured for all weathers and has some decent bermed sections to blast through - it's good for beginners and more experienced riders will still get grins out of it if they hammer round. The rest of Wakerley Great Wood has a fair amount of off-piste trails too if you keep your eyes open for them - if you like tight, twisty, wooded singletrack then there's a fair chance you'll enjoy a ride here.
Bad Points
Not much gradient to work with - speed has to come from your legs rather than gravity, and the off-piste trails can be a bit of a lottery in wet weather (the ground is mostly clay-based and turns to slop or thick sticky mud pretty quickly). No real facilities other than a car park (although Fineshades Wood is a 5 minute ride away with a bike shop and cafe).

It is what you make it... for us locals it's a great area to keep up the fitness etc and can be fun if you push it down the berm sections. Good for beginners too.
Bad Points
Not much variety or technical trails/features.
