Directions
Check individual GPX. Most routes start from Sedburgh.

Howgills is on the border between the North Yorshire Dales and the South Lakes in the North of England. The riding is on natural singletrack and there is a remote yet epic feel to it. The climbs are steep, the views ace and there is lots of singletrack which is both flowing, rocky and fast.

This is quite a seasonal trail i.e. it can get quite muddy so think about sustainability and erosion and how the weather has been before setting off.

Top finds for routes:

  • Hit The Hills have a neat 38 km route with GPX and description also starting from Sedburgh.
  • MBR have a 41 km GPX loop starting from Sedbergh here full of natural singletrack beside Bowderdale Beck.
  • Pedalnorth has a shorter 14 mile route with turn by turn descriptions and GPX starting from Sedburgh.
  • MTB Dales has a 13.6 mile route starting from Devils Bridge near Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria.

Set off from the town of Sedburgh (lots of cafes etc here) and followed the well published route up onto the Howgills and then down Bowderdale.
Its a great ride but one for the good weather as its very exposed in places and no opportunity for help if you get into trouble.
