My "local" trail centre. Given the lack of hills, a lot of fantastic work has been done at Bedgebury of late.

Good Points
The faster you ride it, the better it gets. Massive improvements to the trails over the past 2 years. Excellent place for beginners to hone their skills. Some of the sections, whilst short and relatively flat, have superb flow. Lots of all weather trails.
Bad Points
Largely flat, descents & climbs are all short. A full loop is under 10 miles. Very expensive to use the official car parking (Though its easy to park for free on the A21 and ride in) Very busy when it's sunny or in school holidays, occasional loose dogs, runners and even idiots riding horses on the trails. Not all that natural.

Good day out good trails could do with some more advanced trails and dh section. Better advice to be given to regarding where it's safe to stop on trails should you need to

User Review

Good Points
Good variety of trails,on site shop, bike wash, bike hire, well maintained trails
Bad Points
Trails seemed to be closed for long periods, no information for trail education (do not stop on trails), dirt jump area is old and needs a over haul, needs more maps around site so you know where you are in relation to car park

Bedgebury is a really nice day out and can suit a wide range of riders as it is not too technical but can be a lot of fun ridden fast. There are a couple of really big climbs but you always feel a sense of satisfaction at the top! Definitely worth a visit

First of all let me state that this review is based on how Bedgebury is currently - I appreciate that a lot of work is going on at the moment here (and has been going on for some time) - which only worsens the main issue that I have with Bedgebury, namely the way in which it uses gradient of the Forest. There are at least three separate sections on the trail where uphill slogs are followed by downhill sections on fire road. Whats the point of cycling up single track only to be forced down a fire road? And this is not always due to the current closures either - the aptly named "Pointless" leads onto a fire road section for no discernible reason.
The first half of the trail such as Genesis and Dads Army are fantastic but the second half just feels like a slow, gentle uphill slog with no reward other then repeated straight downhill blasts. I appreciate there will always be the uphill sections, but these should not be wasted with dull downhill fire road riding. As I mentioned before part of this is, I'm sure, is due to the closure of certain sections which look as though they will have plenty of potential, I can only hope they will considerably improve the flow of the trail when opened.
As a side note the short unnamed trail that runs parallel to the first fireroad climb is great fun, especially as it stays very rideable even when the rest of Bedgebury has turned to muddy gloop.
As others have mentioned, the car park is very expensive - even more so at the moment considering that so much of the trail is closed for work, however the site does have excellent facilities - especially the cafe - can highly recommend the hummus and roasted veg sandwiches!
I hope in a few months it becomes the trail centre I'm sure its capable of being.

Good Points
Loads of working going in to upgrade the trails (meaning superb built trails in the future), those sections that have been finished ride very well, good facilities.
Bad Points
Loads of work going in to upgrade the trails (meaning many are closed), expensive parking, currently a really poor utilisation of the Forest gradient.

First time to bedgebury with my son, nice free flowing stuff on the red route, berms could be higher for faster ride.Route signs very poor on all the routes you come out of the gate with no indication of what direction to go in,could not even find Black route. They need to also to get balance spot on for different abilities,in my opinion to much gravel stick with the muddy stuff

User Review

The family green trail is largely fire raod, but the red that loops around the whole estate is nice single track with a (very) short black bit with an intersting beginning.
The red is a England red, as opposed to Welsh or Scottish which are noticably harder.
It's convenient for those in the south east. and can be made into a day trip with non-bikers thanks to the forest playground and the curated pinetum.
Cafe was so-so

Rode this in the wet and mud but would like to see how it rides in the dry. I like the way it is broken into multiple sections each with apt names and their own personality. 12 miles is a decent distance on a muddy day but on a dry day think you would want more.

Good Points
