Last Friday I did a day in the Peaks with the Mountain Bike Rock School. I had never ridden in the Peaks so initially I was very nervous that I just wouldn't have the skill or the confidence to cope! Well I needn't have worried...the instructors were so thorough and supportive that I was able to tackle new types of riding and learn new skills that I never thought I'd posess. The guys have so much patience and knowledge that you just feel at ease and they're always communicating making sure no one feels inadequate and no one gets left behind.
All the guys also have great sense of humours and a friendly demeanour so it's a guaranteed fun day out.

Having been into MTBiking for a few years my riding has developed from local rides to trail centres and now into the more technical/demanding terrain of the Peak District.
A recommendation from a riding friend and after a few big stacks I thought it was good time to get some expert advice from somebody that knew how to ride a bike properly.
From meeting up at the designated location I felt totally at ease with Jonathan who wanted to know all about what riding I did and he soon got into the teaching starting of with warming myself and the bike up thru a series of exercises involving using and being taught how to use the back and front brakes properly this soon got more technical and I learnt how to position my body on the bike to maximise braking efficiency.
We then moved onto cornering, again this started of with jonathan watching how I cornered and then teaching me how it should be done.
We then practiced some bike control techniques flicking the back wheel which is used to scrub speed in corners and bike balancing at slow speed on a beam.
After a lunch break and a chat we headed on to a small technical section of DownHill track, where Jonathon firstly showed us how to approach a downhill section first walking the section and looking at lines tru it then to riding thru it, we then got more technical by adding in braking points and working these before extending the section and leaning how to squash a jump.
Once the confidence was up and Jonathan was pleased with our ability he set us a time to beat on this section and using the new skills learnt we went out to try and better his time (we wasn't far off in the end) after these fun and games we moved onto a long section of downhill where we checked lines and where told how to approach the drop offs and any other technical features before having a complete run to wrap up a great day.

I have just enjoyed a fabulous day in the Peaks with The mountain Bike Rock School, I started my day with apprehension as I have never ridden really rocky terrain or such steep hills, but with the encouragement from the 3 fantastic guys leading us, my apprehension melted away & I could take in the wonderful views & start to really enjoy the ride. We were a mixed ability group & no one was ever left behind & our needs were very well catered for. The guys are such good fun to be with that you are guaranteed a fun day out no matter what!
The peaks ride has definitely improved my skills & my confidence, the very next day I was putting what I had learnt into practise & having more fun.
Although I found this quite physically demanding I was buzzing for hours afterwards.
I would highly recommend this experience, can't wait to do it again.

I've been riding for several years now and have reached a plateau. There was only two of us on the course so we had almost personal tuition so great value for money. Jonathon quickly realized I had a lot to learn as I managed to fall off in first five minuutes! My fault not Jonathons.

We went right back to basics and worked on simple skills. Jonathon put us through the basic building blocks again. By lunchtime I could do basic wheelies something I've never mastered before so I was a happy bunny.

At the end of the day we should have been k********* (tired out) but still had enough energy for the red run. I'd not done it before but it was good to reinforce the new skills I had learnt. I certainly went quicker and obstacles became opportunities to practice not something it the way.

Would recommend Jonathon and the site is excellent. I live in the Peak Park so it was nice to ride in the trees.

A great day out.

Got to give the mountain bike rock school a big shout out.

Me & my bro went on the Downhill Skills Course recently, we had an awsome days riding i ached like a mo'fo but covered loads of stuff & rode some wicked downhill trails.

We started off with setting our bikes up like what tyre pressure & shock set up you need for what trails we were riding.

We then went through body position, braking, cornering, drop off's & manuals etc.

Then we found ourselves a section on the downhill run which was steep, rocky & rooty with tight corners. We went through line choice, braking points, body position when to pump.

we kept going till we got that section nailed then walked the full downhill run checking out the trail as we did & recapped line choice & braking points.

once we got to the top we rolled the first run & then hit the next few runs getting quicker & quicker.

It was an awesome day we started at 9am had a break for lunch for 20 mins then got back on it & ended up having a pint in a pub garden nearby at 4pm.

Me & my bro will deffo go back for more, they tweak each course to suit you so if you have things you need to work on they’ll concentrate on that.

Oh yeh you get a little goody bag as well I got some free mucoff stuff so happy days

Ive been riding for a couple of years now and have only learnt through just getting on the dirt and having a go. This only works for so long until you realise that somethings you just need a little help on... cue The Mountain Bike Rock School!
Found these guys on Twitter and dropped them a message and immediately had the perfect response with help and guidance.
The skills day was brilliant simple as that. Jonathan sat and listened to what I wanted to get out of the day and then we hit the skills park. Learnt so many new skills with simple instruction and advice. Was a great day and flew by. After that day I went on a group ride at Bestwood park. Was an awesome day and met a couple more riders who I now stay in touch with and meet up.

All in all an epic time!!

The only way to improve your riding is to get some tuition and the Mountain Bike Rock School know how to make it fun and enjoyable.
We've on the beginners course because we wanted to get back to basics and they really helped by sorting out our bad habits and gave us more confidence to take on more technical rides.
Went out on father n son course and my lad, he learnt a hell of a lot and enjoyed himself so much he was buzzing for weeks, cost me a new bike for him as well :)
We have also been out on a group ride over Bestwood Park which was great, everyone was made to feel welcome and the ride was aimed at all abilities, it was really fun learning n riding with others in a relaxed atmosphere, its something we will be doing again.

The MTBRS really know what they are doing and they aim the courses around you, so you improve, develop and gain confidence in the disciplines that you need to. They offer real value for money and your riding benefits far more than by spending your hard earned cash on a set of lighter wheels or the latest gizmo for your bike.

Going on downhill course with them at end of July...cant wait :)

We have just returned from a fantastic days tuition at The Mountain Bike Rock School. Myself and Claire picked up loads of new skills and techniques and had great fun whilst doing so. The day flew by and we can't wait for our next visit. Jonathan is a really great instructor, nice guy, very laid back, but full of MTB knowledge and easy to understand so you don't end up confused. The best bit is that at the end of the day you realise that there isn't one big thing you've learned but that the many little things have all added up and have come together and made a big difference in all areas of you riding. Can't recommend this enough to any one at any level... Get out there and have fun

I spent a few months looking for a course to help me build my confidence again after some heavy spills. Jonathan took the time to help me get back into MTBiking and improved my rising no end. I wish I had braked like that before on loose shale. My cornering is so much faster now I have the confidence to really lean the bike into the corners. I can't thank you enough for the great session and can't wait till our downhill course.
