The Longford Park Mini BMX and Pump Track funding search begins

Manchester is already quite the hub for all things cycling and BMX and pump tracks are no exceptions.

Longford BMX is a local community group working to build a Mini BMX Track (Pump track style) within the grounds of Longford Park, South Manchester. The Greater Manchester area has recently become a hub for BMX riding and racing, with 3 full-sized BMX tracks within the borough as well as the £24mil Indoor facility at the National Cycling Centre.

Although there are lots of larger BMX tracks and skate parks within the region they feel bringing a more accessible Mini BMX Track to South Manchester would bring many positive benefits to the community.

Starting on a balance bike at ages as young as 2 these facilities have a proven track record reducing anti-social behaviour (giving youngsters somewhere to go and have fun) as well as increasing cycling skills, fitness and well-being.

They have set a Facebook page up to promote their idea and engage with the local community. They've been in initial discussions with possible funding streams to get things underway whilst working on their proposal (see attached) to enable specialist track builders to quote to aid the funding exercise.

Hi there - any update on this? Can I help?

Was this review helpful to you?

Quick update on progress with this.

They have had an initial meeting and proposal from specialist track builders Velosolutions Ltd regarding the track in the park. I have enclosed an indicative design below which they have kindly provided. The finished article is likely to be different to the below but broadly similar to a facility they have recently opened in Edinburgh.
Moving forward they now need to secure formal approval from the Friends of Longford Park, Trafford MBC and other stakeholders before looking into ways to obtain funding. Everything so far has been very positive so will hopefully update soon with more news of progress!
