Good Points
amazing place for just riding your bike no mater what for xc you have red loop for, enduro you have the black and many other natural unofficial trails like dh3 etc. For dh you have many many trails you have mega mission for some jumping and getting sideways, you have pulse for railing some corners you then have the unofficial ones like bins 1 bins 2, jim will fix it these are steep and loose they great for improving your skills you then have trails on past mega mission and pulse we start with dh3 a good track for the wee bike and big bike then you have the chute or nps which ever you prefer to call it it is absolutely flat-out and rough with a big road gap at the bottom and finally you have the champs track which has been there for years and would be the longest and possibly the hardest with big drops cool switchbacks and a few jumps an amazing all round track and will defiantly test your skills. best of all you have a great uplift service and facility everyone around there is extremely nice and will do everything they can to cater your needs. this is why is my fav place in the world to ride.

Took the bikes over on the ferry from Birkenhead to Belfast as we were staying at a lovely barn conversion (Crotlieve 4 bed 3 bath and good bike cleaning facilities). This was my first ride in Northern Ireland and was delighted to see we were staying 100m from the Rostrevor MTB trail. On Sunday I joined the trail high up the valley and was directed by a few friendly local riders towards 'Heart Attack Hill' - I edged my bets as I was riding solo and pushed as I neared the top. From there I really enjoyed the variety of the trail, very different from my local trails at Swinley Forest (I'll post a few photos), you can make the ride as difficult as you want or are able. On the many rocky sections it was a good boost to confidence every time you come through unscathed, managed to navigate back to Crotlieve. Could wait to take my 14 year old lad out during the week, this time we took the road downhill to the start of the trail in Rostrevor. From there it was a hard ride and push in parts to the top (didn't find the uplift service, but did see it in use later in the week). We were rewarded with spectacular views but eventually we found ourselves above the cloud base. We took the Red trail down and absolutely loved it, I'd recommend lights as visibility was poor in the depth of the woods with the cloud, a good test though (could be my eyes!). All in all a most enjoyable ride and a good workout.

Good Points
Great location above Carlingford Lough
Trails are as testing as you make them
Photo opportunities
Mid-week real feeling of being away from the madding crowd
Friendly MTB riders
Good work-out
Bad Points
I couldn't quite make it up 'Heart Attack' hill (that's avoidable if you start at the beginning)

As i said, good if you are in the area but I thought I had to put a more realistic review up, to be graded near 5 out of 5 against much much better trail centres is a bit of a joke.

I have rode in Scotland more times this year than I have rode in Rostrever trails, and with Rossy being only a 50 minute drive from me should tell you all you need!

Good Points
Its Local, good for a loop if you are in the area.
It has a few fun parts towards the end.
Nice Cafe & some showers etc being installed at the minute.
Bad Points
Lots I am sorry to say.
Straight out of the car park you have a real boring fire road climb, it would put a lot of people off the full loop, it is long and fairly steep and could have been avoided by putting an interesting singletrack climb.

Most of the trail side is littered with stupid large rocks which when the grass grows around them are near impossible to see which makes even the smallest mistake a costly one.

Far to many silly 'breaking?' bumps and badly placed rock gardens, just ruin any flow you can get.

As for the DH trails, they just are not worth the push/pedal/uplift up, most local riders will stick to the older natural DH trails.

Uplift service needs a lot of work on the trailers, the driver is a great guy and good craic but the trailers are badly made and bikes/forks etc get marked.

Excellent bike park. Friendly and experienced staff. Uplift service is great and very regular, with a very helpful and funny driver. Who went out of his way to come back to pick me up after a puncture.
Great variety of trails, from very technical stuff, to Mega Mission which has huge jumps and Berms. You can ride the stuff whether you are experienced, or in my case a beginner, the faster you go, the more challenging it becomes.
Very helpful staff who will give you plenty of advice, and if you offer them Chicken Nuggets and a can of Harp, they will actually go up the trails with you to show you what and where to go.
Rental bikes available are new and in perfect order.

The new trail centre trails promised so much yet delivered so little. Uplift service is excellent though, great for getting to all the natural/trail fairy built trails (which are some of the best in NI)
