Great base for variety of MTB trails

We've had 2 family holidays to McMurdoston and it's a great place to base yourself if you want to visit a few of the 7stanes on the one trip. Ae, Mabie and Dalbeattie are all within a 30-minute drive. The MTB trails at Drumlanrig Castle are just a short drive...

Fun for all abilities

If you've never been to Gisburn its well worth the trip. I have ridden Gisburn five or six times now and always had a good time. The car parks are in good order and cheap ( £3 for all day parking ). The toilets are also well maintained....

Winterfold

Winterfold way (Evian, Area 51, secret santa, switchback trail 3 amigos) due to logging and landowner concerns is becoming a keep away territory now. Hurtwood land is different but clearly quite a few concerns around. I sense some form of committee organisation / regulation will be on its way. Tensions...

Captain Clunk

Hi Dan, apparently someone a mtb'er presumably broke their arm on this trail. It was quite a drop off but is now smoother. Maybe you know this already. Evian has been altered slightly but is still good. Watch out at the beginning though. Haven't been...

Flat but fun.

Sherwood pines is an enjoyable day on the bike, but only if you're willing to put the work in as you can't rely on gravity to do the work as the Kitchener red trail is relatively flat with only 350meters of elevation over a 24k distance. The trail is...

Local woods

Chopwell is my local trails being from Consett and I ride there regularly. I think it's a great place to learn skills and gain confidence as nothing is too big or scary. Saying that I'm not the biggest fan of the power line and the new black route as they...

Avoid the man made stuff for the best trails

Don't be put off by the negative reviews but do realise it's hilly here so it will be hard work.

Great facilities, terrible riding

Great place to go if you stop in the bike shop and ask for some trail advice on local routes. Otherwise don't bother, worst trails I've ever ridden

We decided to come here as it was recommended by Mike Jones (chain reaction) as it's where he trains during the off season. The mountain has a great variety of challenging trails which we found amazing! If you like it steep, gnarly and natural with plenty of jumps...
