Part of the greater Tygerbery Vally MTB club network, spanning 5 farms and over 100km of single track trails.
Contermansloof has a cafe with great coffee and food, and a competent bike shop.

These Mountain Bike Trails are privately owned and managed by Contermanskloof Farm and are situated alongside the Tygerberg Mountain Bike Club trails.

The trail proper starts by the huts beside the scenic dam with it’s characteristic blue gums, so ride around the dam then head up through a short vineyard section where you will need a little kick to ride up diagonally across each of the short terraces between rows of vines. Around the farmhouse and passed the bike shop, then it’s a long-ish ride to the top, along some nice singletrack with gradual contours to make the climb easier.  You might even be passed by Kevin Evans training here, but don’t be tempted to hang onto his back wheel, save your legs for the real grind over the last kilometre where you top out at nearly 440m.

From the top you can either take a tricky and technical blue route down or the easier green, both end up at the same place before joining some super rolling single track that seems to go on forever. A double black section is an option for those with quick reactions and long-suspension (obey the signs and you won’t get caught out by the sudden death drop-offs), or an easier green route takes you to the top of a long fast section running all the way back to the dam.

There is a turn-off on the left for those wishing to cross over to Kliprug (see the Hillcrest/Kliprug page) just before the tunnel under the quarry road.
Unless you are fit this is quite a tough 15km trail to ride around, but that shouldn’t stop novices or beginners giving it a go. There are chicken routes around most obstacles and you can always push!
A shorter non-technical trail for kids is in the offing, plus another downhill-specific run for hard-core d/h’s.
