Van Rd Trails are a Dirt Jump and Trails Bike Park on Van Rd just outside Caerphilly in South Wales. The site was re-opened in 2012 after a long history to gain permission.

They now have a 10-year agreement with the Forestry Commission and are going from strength to strength.

The Trails

 • The site has jumps lines and a pump track and is progressive in nature offering beginner through to expert options. The jumps at Van Rd are free to ride.
 • There are 6 lines of jumps from beginner to competition expert level. The beginner lines are rollable and pump track in nature.
 • There are also two pump tracks on offer.

Group and Clubs

 • Van Rd Trails is run by volunteers. The Van Road Trails Group (VRTG) has an active Facebook Group here

Other Stuff

 • Those responsible for getting the site rebuilt are Steve Aicheler (From Castle Bikes) and Kyle Bishop. The jumps were built by Jason Carpenter, with a bit of help from James Shaunessey and Sam Reynolds helped with the Pro Line.
 • Historically the site had been torn down as it was deemed unsafe but with community leaders coming forward working with the Forestry Commission it was thankfully rebuilt. VRTG applied to re-build the dirt jump in the Welsh Government woodland at Coed Parc y Van and were successful.

It's got loads of different jump lines to please every skill level.. progressively getting harder as you go up the hill with a duel race track with gate along the other side.. pump tracks duels and jumps all develop skill so quickly and are great fun, drys out quick after rain and is always a great atmosphere there.. love it, and wish I could spend more time there really :)

Not a traditional trail centre but a set of pump and jump circuits dotted up one side with a dual slalom trail with jumps running all the way down the other.

I have been bringing my kids along over the summer and already my 5 year-old has progressed to the red lines, rolling the tabletops and cruising around the berms. Some way off the gap jumps at the moment so I hope the centre continues to receive as much support as it can for years to come.

Go check it out on Google maps, the tracks are clearly visible from satellite view.

Good Points

A great set of trails for all abilities ranging from a very gentle pump track that my 5yo cut her teeth on, through the red lines with table-tops and gaps and then on to the pro-lines. The trails are free to all and well maintained.
Occasional fun events such as the recent dual-slalom which was a fundraiser to help with the upkeep of the centre.

Bad Points

As the site is unsupervised and has no litter bins, it suffers a lot from littering and relies on the good folk to bag up and leave for collection.
The trails also suffer from occasional mis-use where jumps have been rolled over in the wet by kids rather than being left alone for a drier day, resulting in the need for reshaping.

Good Points
Great 5 star jumps from a novice level right up to advanced there is truly something for everyone, I marked facilities as 5 star although there isn't any but as you are not charged for using the jumps you get what you pay for lol
Bad Points
Littering is a big problem up here, but you get that everywhere you go it is just a shame some people spoil it for others.
