Bontrager TwentyFour12 2008

I decided last year I really wanted to do some form of event, wasn't sure what event or anything halfway to be organised like that.  I just decided I wanted to do an event of some sort to do with biking.  First of all it was the Manchester Rat Race, then it was another marathon event.  Both of which never actuallyhappened.  Mostly because I was too lazy to sort anything.

However when a friend of mine from my club ( Bigfoot Bike club ) asked if anybody fancied a go at the Bontrager Twentyfour12 this year I jumped at the chance without any hesitation what so ever.  Quite a few others from the club (13 at last count) also fancied it and put their names down, so far we have 2 teams of 6 entering and one nutter doing it solo.

The course is in Newham Park, Plymouth and takes place on the weekend of 26/27th July and my mission now is to get fit enough not to let the others down.  This was made even more aparant by the ride I went on yesterday.  23 miles starting Hayes (Kent) onto Joydens Wood and back again, I spent most of the time at the back puffing like a loon really struggling to keep up and getting lost a couple of times cos the other 3 were so far ahead.  I have decided once they stop gritting the road I will be commuting the 8 miles to work and back again each day to get back to my old fitness level.  Don't get me wrong I was never at the front of the pack but I was never at the back wishing for a mechanical failure on the bike so I can throw in the towel like yesterday.  Having said this I don't want anyone to think I didn't enjoy the ride because I loved it.  Joydens wood has some lovely Singletrack that I was really able to find out what my bike could do and "Oh boy you can't half chuck it about".  It's bloody brilliant!

Anyway I digress, we will be competing in the race with 5 others in the team and I will be keeping you all updated (whether you like it or not!) with my progress and if you have any tips then please let me know!

Anyone else fancy it?

Phil
