Dry at last!!

At last some dry weather, so our regular wednesday night ride through Rowberrow up onto Blackdown (Mendips) was a blast - dry fast tracks for a change.

Or at least mostly dry - some of the deeper puddles were still wet and muddy - especially the one on top of black down - I forgot about this as I built up speed to take the jump just before it - in dry conditions you land on dry track - I landed on thick, deep cloying mud, bottomed the front suspension and narrowly avoided a tip over the handlebars, luckily I was far ahead of my ride buddy so didn't have to suffer any jibes or abuse!

Shame it is now back to night riding though as you never do quite match the speed when you can only see a short distance in advance even on familiar trails.

And the weather is starting to get chilly we were glad the fire was going in the pub, an unexpected bonus as they don't normally light it until October.

And the enduro is holding up (although my other half had to have the fox float replaced on her safire as the seals had blown after a month from new!!)

So all in all things are looking up for some fine dry weather riding - hope it holds until October as I have booked a week off to go to north Wales for a mixture of trail centre riding and the odd bit of walking/scrambling

Mendip vs Quantocks was reviewed in the recent MBR mag. Quantocks came out on top - and I agree they do have the slight edge, but I have to drive to get there whereas I can ride the bikes from home, and stop off in the pub on the way back from evening rides smilies/smiley.gif
Oh and the article didn't mention anything about the downhill tracks that have been built in the woods.
I would certainly say that Mendip is worth a visit, as is the Quantocks!
