Description
Haggerston Park BMX Track is a free BMX track in Haggerston Park, Hackney, with jumps, step-ups and big berms laid out in a W. It's open whenever the park is, and Hackney BMX Club runs booked coaching sessions here on Sundays.
The Track
A W-shaped track of jumps, step-ups and big berms by Bike Track, built with Hackney Council, the park's users group and Access Sport, that you can pump, manual or jump. The first section runs slightly downhill, so it's the smoothest for manuals and jumps and is often ridden as its own mini loop. On the second the gradient runs out, so you need to pump to hold your speed.
It's free and open whenever the park is, from 7.30am at the latest until between 5pm in winter and 9.30pm in high summer (Hackney Council). Dogs aren't allowed on the track.
For more tracks across the capital, see our guide to pump tracks in London.
Riding with the Club
Hackney BMX Club coaches on Sundays, in sessions you book online in advance, and the track is closed to other riders from 10am to 2.30pm on Sundays while the club is in. New riders start in Group 1 so the coaches can see how they ride, and you need to be confident riding standing up and able to ride the lower section on your own. Race bikes, full-face helmets, pads and gloves can be borrowed, and under 18s need an adult with them. Sessions meet at the sheds just south of the tennis courts. The club also races at club, regional and national level.
See Hackney BMX for sessions, membership and booking, or its Facebook page for cancellations.
