Lanhydrock Trails

  • There is a 10km of off-road Green and Blue graded cycle trails in the woodland to the north of the estate targeted at beginners, families and novices.

I rode here whilst on holiday, and had a blast. My only regret, i missed the Hart trail. Me my son and wife rode the green trail first, then i was aloud to go and play. The blues are not too hard so you can increase your speed with practice.

A great ride well worth the effort

Good Points
I live 15 miniutes from this ride and would highly recomend it. First parking is free as is the use of the trail. There is a good varity of rides all finishing back at the hub in the center. I have been both alone where you can push yourself to the limit. But there are also sections really good for the family where I have taken a ride with my 12 year old and he loves certain sections (some sections I would not recomend for family). There is bike hire which is reasonable. I think the longest it has taken to complete a section with my lad is 20 miniutes which is good as he does as much or as little as he wants.
You can also combine this ride with the Bodmin Beast about 10 miniutes drive 15 miniutes ride away.
Bad Points
Unfair to say this is a bad point but it can get very busy due to its family friendly nature. If you want a hard ride go later in the evening to avoid family riders.

Good Points
Great venue. I can recommend - Timber trail (with red bits) Hart trail. Saw pit. I usually ride all of these at least a couple of times - takes about an hour. My favourite is the timber trail which is nice and flowy with a few red features thrown in. The ride back up to the start isn't to bad either. A nice little skills section to warm up on, and a few other trails just across from the car park or a trip down to Cardingham woods just a couple of mile away make it a really good day. Nothing technical even the red bits.
Track in good condition (hope it stays that way) Nice and flowy. If only it was about ten times longer. But the builders have done a great job.

Since I first visited the trails I've tried to get over to Lanhydrock as often as possible both on my own and with the family and have had some real laugh out loud moments there, the best of which must be flying down the Hart trail into a sea of bluebells. A truly breathtaking scene.

Good Points
The trails are fun and flowy, even uphill sections seem to pull you on. They are arranged so that you can try them individually but they lead well enough into each other that you can treat them as a whole.
It's free.
You can ride at anytime and in most weather.
The trails are never crowded even when the car park is full.
There's a skills track to practice on and a mini track for kids/ balance bikes (also a playground for the kids).
The flapjacks from the cafe are top notch.
It pairs up nicely with Cardinham Woods down the road for a fantastic day of riding.
It's close enough to Cardinham Woods to make a brilliant days riding.
Bad Points
Can't think of any. I've never left with anything other than a big grin on my face.

Good for absolute beginners starting out, more seasoned mountain bikers best looking elsewhere.

Good Points
Green and easy blue trails good for an introduction to mountain biking.
Bad Points
Poor confusing signage, arrived by bike from Bodmin on the cycle route and took us 20 mins to find trail head!
Cyclist have to dismount to get through facilities to trail head - surely enough space for dedicated cycle route through facilities?
More experienced riders will get bored quick with lack of variety best giving this a miss and going to Cardinham a couple of miles away.
