Inspired by the success of the “Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland” model, a new organisation in Wales is forming with a vision that aims to elevate Wales as a premier destination for mountain biking enthusiasts from all over the world. Its name is Developing Mountain Biking in Wales and Welsh Cycling the governing body of cycling in Wales is behind it.

Their mission is to promote the breathtaking landscapes, wide variety of trails, and abundant natural beauty of Wales to create a world-class mountain biking destination. By emulating the successful framework established in Scotland, they will work collaboratively to:

  • Develop, maintain and grow a sustainable network of diverse mountain biking trails suitable for all levels of rider.
  • Foster a vibrant mountain biking community through events, workshops, and skill-building programs.
  • Promote eco-friendly practices such as regenerative trails and work with industry partners to ensure the preservation of our cherished outdoor environment.
  • Boost tourism and economic growth in local communities by attracting mountain biking enthusiasts and supporting cycle friendly tourist infrastructure.
  • Campaign on behalf of the sector to improve trail access and investment (both public & private) in MTB in Wales.

This project will look to reinvigorate the great work already done through MB Wales whilst shaping it to bring in the many grassroots trails movements that are established across Wales. Collectively as a nation and community, we’ve got huge potential.

There is a kick off event targeted at riders, trail builders, local business owners, or simply someone who loves the sport and wants to see it thrive:

This is truly an incredible initiative. England is just so far behind, unfortunately.
